چکیده

Statistical analysis of measurement of aortic length made on 250 angiocardiograms indicates that arteriosclerosis, hypertension and syphilitic aortitis produce elongation of the aorta. Aortic length varies widely among normal individuals but is roughly ten times the caliber of the ascending aorta. Syphilitic aortitis produces disproportionate elongation of the ascending portion of the aorta as compared to arteriosclerosis or hypertension. ANGIOCARDIOGRAPHY affords an accurate delineation of aortic form and contour during life; it allows measurement of aortic length and diameter. By means of measurements made upon angiocardiograms, it has been possible to determine the range in caliber of the normal and diseased aorta. In 1949, the results of measurement of the caliber of the normal thoracic aorta at four anatomically fixed points-midascending, transverse, descending and diaphragmatic-were reported.' Measurement of 100 normal aortas (including those with arteriosclerosis) indicated that the caliber (for all ages) of the midascending aorta ranged between 16 and 38 and averaged 28.6 mm. In a study of 51 patients with syphilitic aortitis,2 the range for the same point of measurement was from 38 to 70 mm. and the average caliber was 45.4 mm.

Left ventricular volume in aortic stenosis measured by an angiocardiographic and a thermodilution method.

The action of the left ventricle is impaired in aortic stenosis to a variable degree, and since the extent of myocardial damage will influence the management and prognosis in the individual patient, some way of determining myocardial function is required. For a full assessment of left ventricular performance it is necessary to measure the changes in both volume and pressure throughout the cardi...

Cervical aortic arch with aortic obstruction: report of two cases.

The occurrence of aortic obstruction in patients with cervical arch is very rare. The clinical and angiocardiographic findings of two patients with this combination of defects are presented. One of these patients, in whom tricuspid atresia with reduced pulmonary blood flow was also present, had a successful resection of the obstruction together with construction of a Waterston shunt.

A quantitative angiocardiographic study of left ventricular hypertrophy and the electrocardiogram.

The QRS amplitude, duration, and mean axis direction of the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram were compared with left ventricular mass, volume, wall thickness, and stroke work in 112 adult patients. These patients had normal left ventricles or various degrees of left ventricular dilatation or hypertrophy. Left ventricular volumes and mass were determined by a quantitative angiocardiographic me...

Cross-sectional echocardiographic assessment of coarctation in the sick neonate and infant.

To establish an integrated non-invasive method for diagnosing coarctation, cross-sectional echocardiographic appearances of 48 neonates and infants with coarctation were combined with clinical information on the peripheral pulses. Measurements of the ascending aorta, aortic arch, and isthmus were made and compared with those from controls matched for weight and age. Confirmation of the coarctat...

Persistence of third aortic arch with fourth aortic arch agenesis.

This report describes a case in which a persistent third aortic arch connection partly palliated interruption of the aortic arch. The malformation occurred without other cardiovascular abnormality in a newborn infant in whom the principal diagnostic clinical finding was the absence of all peripheral pulses except for those of the right brachial and carotid arteries. Echocardiographic and angioc...
